Red Man's America: A History of Indians in The United States by Ruth Murray Underhill. Hardcover with dust jacket, 408 pages, illustrated, First Edition, University of Chicago Press ©1953
Red Man's America studies Indian societies from the first Stone Age hunters to the American citizens of today. Beginning with the first migrations of primitive man from Siberia in the Old World to Alaska in the New, and his subsequent migration southward and eastward, the author covers the tribes and cultures of the various regions of North America with material gathered from the fields of archaeology, ethnology, and history. Underhill also drew from her personal experiences in the U.S. Indian Service regarding the heritage of Indian life and lore.
